Descritption of Reinforced Concrete Shear Wall system |
|
This section focuses on low-rise to mid-rise housing with lateral load resisting system consisting of RC shear walls cast in-situ. Normally this is engineered type of structure however non-engineered forms of this type of construction also exist.
For architectural planning including large bay windows or entire cantilevered portions of upper stories of buildings deep RC girders are required. Consequently are being implemented RC shear walls in the plan of the building.
Similarly in cases where vertical and/or horizontal irregularity (according to modern codes) is present is necessary to incorporate RC shear walls in the structural layout.
This structural type is favoured when upgrading existing buildings with RC frames. Adding new RC structural walls is often feasible and efficient design strategy.
The information in this section will also apply to new both non-engineered and engineered structure planning, design and detailing.
